System Values and African–American Leadership

We Have No Leaders, published in 1996 concluded that established Black leadership had been incorporated into the system and co-opted. This paper is a brief analysis of how the values of the political system impede the capabilities of
African American leaders. The article looks at core system values: capitalism,
constitution, and democracy; and indicates how they contribute to impeding
and co-opting Black leaders.
